Welcome to the Hertfordshire Junior Badminton Association (HJBA). If you are aged 18 down to just five years and want to play badminton then look no further for the best playing opportunities in Hertfordshire.

Whether you are looking for a club to join, a tournament to enter or some coaching to get you started or help you improve, browse our website to find information to help or get in touch. Perhaps you are seeking doubles partners in which case we may also be able to help you. Just pop your requirements on an email and we will try to point you in the right direction.

County squad trials

Trials for the HJBA County Squads for the 2026/27 season will be held at Hertfordshire Sports Village, University of Hertfordshire de Havilland Campus, Hatfield, AL10 9EU as below. Please note that due to court availability issues, the U13, U15 and U17 trials will be held on a Monday.

As last season, we are asking players to pre-register using the links to the squad online forms below to minimise administration on the night and allow us to plan for the numbers attending:

  • U11 Squad (born in 2017 and later)

The trials for this squad have now been held for next season. If you missed the trials and have any questions, please contact the squad manager, Nick Goode ()

  • U13 Squad (born in 2015 or 2016)

The trials for this squad have now been held for next season. If you missed the trials and have any questions, please contact the squad manager, David Brown ()

  • U15 Squad (born in 2013 or 2014)

The trials for this squad have now been held for next season. If you missed the trials and have any questions, please contact the squad manager, Mike Newlove ()

  • U17 Squad (born in 2011 or 2012)

Summer badminton clubs

Missing your badminton over the summer? Here are a few suggestions:

Ware Badminton Club

If your club is closed or you just want more badminton, it would be great to see you at the Ware Summer Club. Ware is one of the strongest and largest clubs in Herts, with a proud record of encouraging county juniors to play in a good quality senior club. Our Summer Club is held at Wodson Park every Wednesday in June and July, 8:00pm-10:00pm.

Hertford Badminton Club

Hertford Badminton Club are running a summer club at Ware Drill Hall on Monday evenings 19:30 – 21:30 from 2nd May to 31st August, including all Bank Holidays. They have 4 courts and play with feathered shuttles. Junior cost is £3.50, Adult £7.00. For more details contact Jackie Ward on 07716 250404.

HJBA AGM Notification

This year’s AGM will be held in the Academy Room at Hertfordshire Sports Village, De Havilland Campus, Hatfield Business Park, Mosquito Way, Hatfield AL10 9EU on Wednesday 24th June 2026, starting at 19:30 prompt.

Young Coach and Young Volunteer of the Year 2025-26

HJBA and Hertfordshire BA are looking for this year’s Young Coach of the Year and Young Volunteer of the Year. Do you know someone who is U22 on May 31st 2026 and in either category is outstanding? 

  • For Young Coach, the BE categories recognised are Young Leader Award holder, SmashUp! Activator, Level 1 or Level 2 award holder.
  • For Young Volunteer, they could be helpers in any way in clubs, schools, sports facilities, college or Uni, at tournaments, with social media, etc.
