Herts Junior Badminton Association

About

The purpose of this website is to provide readily accessible information about the Herts Junior Badminton Association and our many activities.

The content of the site is regularly updated and we recommend that our members place this site on their favourites list to ensure that they are kept up to date with what is happening around the county and beyond.

A list of committee members and volunteers can be found on the Contact page. Election of a Chairman, Treasurer, Secretary and Child Welfare Officer together with other committee members takes place at the Annual General Meeting in accordance with our Constitution.

Our aims

  • We support the same principles and targets as BADMINTON England.
  • To abide by and endeavour to ensure others abide by BADMINTON England’s Child Protection Policy and the Code of Ethics and Conduct (“the Code”).
  • To promote and encourage badminton in schools and for young people in Hertfordshire .
  • To develop badminton as a sport for all and to help all players to reach their potential and progress up through the rankings whether at club, county or International level.
  • To co-operate with all members such as Junior Schools, Senior Schools, Colleges and Junior Clubs.
  • To ensure that young players in the county have access to regular high quality coaching and playing opportunities.

What we do

We run a series of closed tournaments throughout the season for eligible boys and girls to compete against county and non-county players. All entrants must either reside in Hertfordshire or attend school within the county boundary or satisfy our eligibility criteria covering affiliated clubs. These events cover singles, level doubles and mixed doubles for all junior age groups. We also invite Hertfordshire primary schools to a county-wide tournament where teams of players compete against each other for medals or trophies.

Additionally, we host annual open tournaments supported by BADMINTON England which attract the top junior players from around the country.

Full details of future tournaments are available on the Tournaments page.

County Squads

Hertfordshire currently runs weekly squad training sessions for 5 separate age groups, comprising U11’s, U13’s, U15’s, U17’s and U19’s. Squad sessions are divided into winter, spring and summer terms and run concurrently with the school calendar.

Selection to each of the squads is made at our annual trials, which currently take place in June. Our experienced squad managers remain exclusively responsible for the selection process. Squad practice sessions are carefully arranged to allow best development practice whilst ensuring the smooth running of each squad.

Although juniors are eligible for selection to older age group and senior (adult) county matches, all players remain members of the squad appropriate to their date of birth. For more information about county squads, please visit the County Squads page.
