U17 SHIRES LEAGUE Team gain 4th
place
[posted 20/05/13]
The Hertfordshire U17 Team had showed real fighting
spirit and great team work to achieve reaching the
Shires League Finals.
On the day we knew the challenge to beat any of the
top teams would be tough, drawn against Lancashire in
the first Round needed all playing to the best of their
ability and that is exactly what happened with Herts
winning 15-5 , a great victory. Moving onto the next
match against Buckinghamshire which proved just too
strong for the Team, this meant we now had to fight for
3rd or 4th place against Hampshire, after some very
close games it went right down to the wire - 10 games
all and Herts just losing out by 13 points to finish a
very respectful 4th place.

U17 ICT TEAM RESULTS
[posted 20/05/13]
Hertfordshire's U17 ICT team was really unlucky at the
Inter Counties Tournament in Nottingham not to be in the
top 4. However, three losing 5 - 5 results meant an 11th
placing out of the 36 counties participating. Click

U17 Nationals Success FOR MATTHEW
[posted 21/04/13]
Matthew Widdicombe 16 year old Chauncy School student
claimed his first national badminton title at the weekend.
Winning the under 17 boys doubles title with Angus Pedersen
from Middlesex at the National Age Group Championships at
Redbridge Sports Centre in Essex. Winning five straight
matches without dropping a game against some tough opposition
from all corners of the Country gave them the National title.
The Great Amwell student is a member of Ware Badminton
Club based at Wodson Park and has been playing competitively
since the age of 9 for Herts Schools Badminton Association
and has now progressed up the ranks as a member of the Herts
senior county squad. Training at the newly refurbished Birchwood
Leisure Centre in Hatfield and Alexander Palace over the
last year under the watchfully eye of Coach Joel Gayle and
the senior county coaches has been an important factor in
the weekends success in addition to his sponsorship by Carlton
Sports Company.
